Rule of law cannot be upheld until the criminals are punished:IGP Khan Baig

Lahore: In order to further downgrade the crimes rate in the province particularly in Lahore, there is dire need to implement the preventive policing besides adopting modern system of investigations to provide protection to the lives and property of the citizens. The rule of law cannot be upheld Acting IGP is addressing with a Law and Order meeting held at Police Line, Qila Gujjar Sing, Lhr for their crimes.

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khan Baig expressed these views while addressing the first meeting of the Lahore police to review the law and order situation at the Central Police Office today. Acting CCPO Lahore Naseem-ul-Zaman Siddiqui, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai, DIG (Investigations) Chaudhry Shafique, SSP (Operations) Sohail Sukhera, SSP (Investigation) Babar Bakhat Qureshi and all the divisional SPs were also present on this occasion.

The meeting reviewed in detail the security related issues regarding the Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (PBUH), Milad conference of Dr Tahirul Qadri, the overall crimes and law and order situation besides the progress of the seven Model Police Stations being established in Lahore.

On this occasion, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai informed the IGP that 6300 policemen including six SPs, 36 SDPOs, 82 SHOs, 476 upper subordinates and 570 lower subordinates would be deployed across the City to provide security cover to the participants of procession and Mahafil of Eid Milad.

The IGP directed the police to ensure foolproof security for the Milad procession to be taken out from Railways Station, Islampura and Walled city while police security should be kept on high alert during the beginning and end of the Mahafil.

The IGP Punjab further directed the police officers to evolve a special traffic plan to maintain smooth flow of traffic besides providing safe passage to the participants on the routes of the events and the processions.

The meeting also reviewed the security arrangements for the Milad conference of Dr Tahirul Qadri. The IGP directed the police to provide foolproof security cover to the event and active policemen should be deployed around the venue. DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai also informed the IGP that more than 1000 policemen including one SP, 8 DSPs and 15 SHOs would be deployed around the site to ensure foolproof security for the conference.

The meeting also reviewed the progress on the project of Model Police Stations being set up in New Anarkali, Raiwind, Green Town, Muslim Town, Shahdara, Defense-A and Model Town areas.

DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai informed the participants of the meeting that the construction of the building, installation of CCTV cameras, Reporting Rooms, deployment of two women duty officers and two lady constables, and provision of vehicles and motorcycles for this purpose has been completed so far.

After reviewing the crimes and law and order situation in Lahore, the IGP directed the police officers to focus of modern methods of investigations to get the criminals punished. The IGP also said that the crimes could not be controlled until and unless the criminals are awarded exemplary punishment.

The IGP also ordered the police to properly maintain the record of the criminals in each police station while training courses should also be arranged for the officers about the modern techniques of the investigations
