Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has said that a new history is being written in transport sector in Punjab. He said with the implementation of great public welfare project of metro bus, comfortable, affordable and safe traveling facilities would be made available to the general public. He said the cooperation of contractors and all concerned institutions towards this project is laudable. He said, for the first two weeks, metro bus would be run free-of-cost, while its fare would be kept affordable for the common man. He said latest e-ticketing system would be introduced for the bus. He said nine kilometer-long flyover is a milestone of architecture, whereas, day and night work is being carried out on the project as a mission.
He was presiding over a high level meeting to review metro bus project, which was attended by Chairman Lahore Transport Company, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Managing Director Punjab Metro Bus Authority, Director General LDA and other concerned authorities. The Chief Minister said that completion of metro bus project is in its last phase, whereas, comfortable and affordable metro buses would soon ply for the convenience of the people. He said the great metro bus project is a public welfare project, which is being completed by Punjab government, through its own resources. He said this project is being completed in a record period of eleven months, whereas it was completed in two and a half years in Turkey. He said metro bus project is a wonder of transport and would bring revolutionary changes in the transport sector.
He said metro bus project has successfully been initiated on trial basis and has been highly appreciated by the citizens. He said the elite would also feel proud to travel with the common man when metro buses would start plying. He said metro bus service has been launched and is being completed with a missionary zeal. He said this project is a historic achievement of Pakistan Muslim League (N), which would provide comfortable, safe and affordable facilities to the citizens. He said best arrangements at bus stations have been made for the convenience of commuters, while all system is being linked through a modern electronic system, besides establishing control rooms at the stations. He said precious commuting time would be saved with the initiation of metro bus service.
He directed concerned authorities to expeditiously complete the installation work of escalators, along with completing work on facilities to be made available at these bus stations. He also directed expediting horticulture and landscaping work at metro route. Punjab Chief Minister was given detailed a briefing during the meeting.
