Lahore: District Police Sahiwal has successfully recovered, from the custody of the abductors, a boy who had been kidnapped for rupees two million ransom.
According to details, thirteen-year-old Aakif was kidnapped at gunpoint from Scheme No 2 district Sahiwal on January 8. The abductors demanded Rs 1.5million ransom from Ikram-ul-Haq, father of the boy. The family paid the ransom but the abductors demanded more Rs1.5million ransom instead of releasing the boy.
DPO Sahiwal Muntazir Mehdi constituted a six-member special police team, which launched the investigations using scientific methods and later raided at the hideout of the criminals after taking the victim family into confidence. As the police raided the place, the kidnappers opened fire on the police, which triggered armed encounter with the criminals.
Two policemen including ASI Amir Ishaq and Constable Waheed Akhtar sustained serious injuries while three accused persons including Rashid, Shahid, and Azeem were killed and their two other accomplices managed to escape.
The criminals killed in the counter were wanted to the police in several cases of heinous crimes. The same criminals had shot at and wounded one Abdul Razzaq and fled away after snatching Rs 500,000 from him on August 13, 2012. They also kidnapped Qamar Riaz, the son of a bank officer, on September 7, 2012 from Fareed Town and released him after the family had paid them rupees one million as ransom.
DPO Sahiwal Muntazir Mehdi has said that the killings of notorious criminals would help downgrade crimes rate considerably in the district.
