With reference to performances, the period comprises the calendar year 2012. And a highly credible panel consisting of legend Intikhab Alam, chief selector Iqbal Qasim and veteran journalist Qamar Ahmed have selected the winners.
From the best in domestic cricket, to umpires and curators, physically impaired cricketers in two categories (deaf and blind) to Player of the Year in all formats, and the Emerging Player of the Year are to be named. In addition to that, there are two Life Time Achievement Awards as well.
The really big one, of course, is: Player of the Year.
This new PCB initiative is meant to recognize, acknowledge and honour Pakistan’s prime cricketing talent that has consistently stood out on the field of play – winning laurels for the team and the nation.
“The PCB believes that by putting the prime movers of our resurrection in contemporary cricket over the last one year on a pedestal, and making it a permanent feature, will give additional incentive to our top talent to make an extra effort whenever they step on to the field in Pakistan colours.
“We at the PCB are confident that it shall bring even greater consistency in Team Pakistan’s performances than witnessed in recent times”, said PCB Chairman Ch. Zaka Ashraf.
Each Award also accompanies a cash prizes but the real value lies in recognition and honour that it bestows on the recipient.
