Farmers should be educated about modern techniques to get maximum agri production:Secretary Irrigation Punjab

Lahore: Secretary Irrigation Punjab and Managing Director PIDA Khalid Masood Chaudhary has said that farmers should be educated about modern techniques of saving canal water so that maximum agri production could be ensured by using minimum amount of water.

He was presiding over a joint monitoring meeting held under Punjab Irrigation System Improvement Project (PISIP) continuing with the cooperation of Japanese International Cooperation Agency, (JICA), here today. Representatives of JICA Pakistan Mr. Kiuno, Mr. Di Sokey Kuata and Mr. Aslam Qureshi, General Manager (TM) PIDA Bashir Ahmed Zahid, General Manager (Operation) Shabbir Ahmed Malik, Project Director Ahmed Usmani, Director Strategic Planning Muhammad Aamir Khan, Deputy GM (TM) Afzal Anjum Toor, Deptuy GM (Social Mobilization) Shaaiq Hussain Abidi and other concerned officers were also present.

During a briefing, Secretary Irrigation informed that funds of Rs.3.24 million have been allocated for the elections of 67 farmers’ organizations in Lower Chenab Canal (West) Area Board Faisalabad while election process would be completed by 26th February 2013. He said that necessary record has been provided to newly constituted Kissan organizations in Bahawalnagar Area Water Board while the construction of offices of Area Water Boards of Bahawalnagar and LLC System would be completed after the approval of summary sent to Chief Minister. He directed the officers to apprise the farmers’ community of modern techniques of saving water so that maximum agri-produce could be achieved through them by using minimum amount of water. He specially thanked JICA experts for provision of technical support for reformation of irrigation system.
