PIMS to start providing emergency care to cardiac patients by Feb 2013

Islamabad: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday visited the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and inaugurated Organ Transplant Center and Cardiac Center.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Engr. Shaukatullah, Minister for CADD, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Managing Director Pakistan Baitul Mal, Zamurd Khan and other senior officials.

The Executive Director PIMS and Secretary Ministry of CADD apprised the Prime Minister about the Organ Transplant Center. They said that the Center would contribute in early detection of liver and kidney diseases.

The team of professionals at PIMS has completed the civil works and renovations. The entire equipment is ready and essential trained human resources have been hired.

The Prime Minister was apprised that the center is fully functional and it comprises of an Outpatient Department, a newly built operation theater and Intensive Care Unit with state of the art technology.

He was informed that PIMS would carry out transplant at less charges with the support of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.

The Prime Minister was further apprised about the state of the art Cardiac Center which is the only public sector care facility at the tertiary care level with referral from the Islamabad Capital Territory as well as from four provinces, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Cardiac Center of PIMS would also be linked with Rescue 1122 ambulances in Islamabad to start prompt treatment of cardiac patients on their way to the hospital.

The ECG would be relayed to the hospitals live where doctor would be able to start treatment while patient is on the way to hospital. The service is likely to be introduced by February 2013.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Ministry of CADD for taking steps for ensuring better health facilities to the residents of Islamabad. He appreciated the dedication of Minister for CADD.
