Chairman NAB behind corruption in Pakistan?

Rawalpindi:The statements of Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari regarding corruption in Pakistan are aimed at cheap popularity, a retired Army official said Wednesday.

Corruption has become part of our culture but the repeated harsh allegations by the Chairman NAB are aimed to cover up his failures and the collusion among the anti-corruption body and dishonest elements, said Lt. Col. M Tariq Kamal (Retired), former Director Engineering DHA Islamabad.

In a statement issued here today, he said that NAB is directly responsible for increasing corruption in Pakistan as it has always provided shelter to the corrupt.

He said that stock mafia deprived masses of billions in many artificial crashed but NAB done nothing to bring culprits to book while relying only on statements.

Similarly, practically dysfunctional NAB’s role has remained negative in dozens of high-profile corruption cases which is evident from the statement of Chief Justice Pakistan who blamed this NAB for supporting corruption.

Giving an example, Col. Tariq said that Bahria Town and top officials of DHA Islamabad are directly involved in plunder to the tune of 200 billion of which all evidence has been provided to Chairman NAB since two years but he would not initiate any meaningful action and continue to shelter the corrupt.

He said that Chairman NAB should let masses know when did he knew about corruption, why he started talking about it at this juncture after serving for over one year on the present post and will he take any action against the corrupt, he questioned.

The NAB under Bukhari is not only accused of violating laid down rules and procedures but also turning a blind eye to the corruption and offering friendly prosecution of NRO cases in favour of influential, said Col. Tariq.

He said that NAB lacks ability to name the accused or substantiate claim that the corruption in government departments has crossed Rs 10 billion per day.

Unfortunately, the people who are entrusted to apprehend culprits are themselves committing the crimes.
