335 persons have been arrested during anti-drugs campaign in the city

Lahore: As many as 335 persons have been arrested by registering 317 new cases in connection with anti-drugs campaign under Drug Free City Lahore project in November 2012 and 133kg chars, 36kg heroin, 1kg opium and 3687 bottles of liquor were recovered from them and confiscated. A campaign regarding creating awareness among the masses about the harmful effects of drugs is continuing vigorously and various seminars, lectures, speech competitions, rallies, recreational awareness shows and stalls have been set up during the last month.

According to the details, Lahore police during a raid and arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 31kg chars in the area of police station Misri Shah and four drug traffickers and 12kg chars in police station Chung. Similarly, Anti-Narcotics Force Lahore arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 10kg chars. This force also arrested two drug traffickers and recovered 2.5kg heroin from them. City District Government Lahore also conducted raids on various Shisha cafes and took legal action against the owners for making Lahore drug free city.

Lahore High Court Bar Association arranged a special seminar for creating awareness among the masses and the speakers threw light on the harmful effects of drugs. Special seminars were also arranged at Arif Boys Higher Secondary School Dharampura and auditorium of Lahore Museum for creating awareness among the students about the hazardous effects of drugs which were addressed by office-bearers of trader organizations and various social personalities. Youth Council for Anti Narcotics also arranged a seminar at Government College University. Lecturers were delivered for creating awareness among the people. Volunteer Youth Force also held a rally from New Shadbagh Chowk to Tajpura Chowk.  A three-day stage drama, Meetha Zehr, was arranged with the cooperation of “Ahsas for Life” in this regard. Pak Youth Welfare Council also arranged a speech competition at Govt. Higher Secondary School Dharampura for this purpose.
