Pakistan wants ties with US based on mutual trust, respect: Kaira

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday said that Pakistan wanted cordial relations with the United States based on mutual trust and respect.

He was talking to who called on him here and discussed matters of mutual interests, particularly cooperation in the field of media. The minister said that terrorism was a global threat that needed to be tackled through global efforts.
He stressed for waging a war against breeding grounds of extremist mind-set.”Pakistan is a functional democracy where media is free and civil society is vibrant” he said.

Kaira said that it was for the first time a democratic government was successfully completing its constitutional tenure.He said that the present government had put in place a system to ensure free and fair elections in the country.The minister and the US Ambassador agreed on the need for enhanced and continuous engagement with each other at bilateral level.

Both emphasized on the need for exchange of technical expertise in the field of media and learn from each other’s experiences.
