Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia meets Ch Parvez Elahi

Islamabad: The visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Dr Sok An called on Pakistan Muslim League senior central leader and Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi here today.

On this occasion, PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Honorary Consul General of Cambodia in Pakistan Ch Salik Hussain, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Industries Muhammad Basharat Raja and important business personalities of Cambodia and govt. officials were also present. Dr Sok An is the first Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia who is visiting this country at the special invitation of Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan Ch Parvez Elahi.

During meeting with Dr Sok An and after talking to the media, Ch Parvez Elahi said both Cambodia and Pakistan are emerging economies of Asia, there exist vast opportunities for industrial, cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries, in the past opportunities for trade cooperation between the two countries were not fully utilized.

Ch Parvez Elahi during his meeting with Dr Sok An underlined the need for expanding and strengthening of industrial and trade cooperation between the two countries. He said that recently ASEAN Summit was held in Cambodia in which US President Barack Obama had also participated. He said that holding of this summit reflected the increasing economic importance of Cambodia at regional and international levels. Dr Sok An said that he wants to introduce reforms in Cambodia. Praising administrative capabilities of Ch Parvez Elahi, the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister said that he had very minutely observed the tenure of Ch Parvez Elahi as the Punjab Chief Minister and his country can seek appropriate guidance from it.
He said that D-8 Summit is representative forum of the developing countries, holding of the summit in Pakistan is quite appreciable and this would generate further opportunities for trade cooperation between the participating countries.

Responding to the questions from the media after the meeting, Ch Parvez Elahi said that our stance on Palestine is very clear, we attach due preference to the human life, we strongly condemn aggression in any form. He expressed regrets over martyrdom of innocent Palestinians.
