People are relaxed as dengue is under control: Senator Pervaiz Rashid

Lahore: Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that people of Lahore were frightened from dengue epidemic last year but they are much relaxed as dengue is under control due to blessing of Allah Almighty and government efforts this year.

This was stated by him while addressing the concluding session of 2-day International Dengue Conference, held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here today. He said that officers and officials of government departments besides members of civil society, media and people belonging to various walks of life have won the war against dengue under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He further said that now there is a great responsibility on our shoulders to make this success more sustainable. He said that struggle against dengue will have to carry out with the same zeal and zest so that this menace could not spread again in future. He also appreciated dengue experts from Sri lanka, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore for extending their professional and technical cooperation to local experts and thanked them on behalf of Punjab government and Chief Minister. The concluding session was also attended by Special Advisor to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Secretary Health Arif Nadeem, Special Secretary Babar Hayyat Tarrar, Additional Secretary Health(Admn) Dr. Sajid Mehmood Chohan, Additional Secretary (Technical) Dr. Anwar Janjua, Director General Health Punjab Dr. Nisar Cheema, Additional Director General Vector Born Diseases Dr. Jaffar Ilyas, Medical Superintendents of government hospitals, Pro-Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof;. Dr. Aslam Khan, Prof. Faisal Masood, officers of various government departments, doctors and nurses.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid also distributed certificates among foreign delegates on the behalf of Punjab Chief Minister. Earlier, various working groups presented their recommendations regarding control of dengue in future and provision of better treatment to dengue patients in the conference and briefed the participants about their experiences and strategy regarding dengue in their respective countries. The experts were of the view that the leadership like Chief Minister Punjab is necessary for achieving success in struggle against dengue. He said that the war against dengue is long and it will have to be carried out besides capacity-building of local medical experts, entomologists and nurses as well as creating awareness among the masses regarding dengue. They stressed that the people will have to change their attitude and lifestyle. Punjab Health Department will publish the recommendations of international experts for prevention of dengue in the form of a book. Secretary Health Punjab also addressed the concluding session whereas Special Secretary Health acted as Stage Secretary. Dr. Fernando, Dr. Tesira and Dr. Kasum Wathal from Sri Lanka, Prof. Suchitra, Prof. Dr. Makda, Dr. Ratchetat, Ms Rasana ValeerTanpata from Thailand, Dr. Le Chin from Singapore and Dr. Rita from Indonesia participated in the conference.
