A man set himself on fire to protest against the Punchayat

Lahore: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman has taken strong notice of an incident in which a man, Skindar Hayat son of Shah Nawaz, set himself on fire to protest against the decision of a Punchayat in Chiniot district. The IGP has also directed DPO Chiniot Shahzad Akbar to submit the report of the incident to CPO Lahore within 24 hours.

Following the orders of the IGP, the DPO has constituted a five-member investigation team to probe into the incident. SDPO City Circle, DSP (Investigations) Chiniot, SHO City, In-charge Investigations and the investigation officer of City police station are the members of the team.

Meanwhile, a case FIR No (1016/12) under section 324/34 has been registered against three nominated accused persons including Naseer Ahmed, Qaiser and Haji Khalil Ahmed on the application of Shahid Nawaz, brother of Skindar Hayat in Chiniot City police station. The Chiniot police have also arrested all the three accused persons and are interrogating them. Shahid Nawaz stated in his application that his brother Skindar Hayat had been working along with the accused persons at a furniture workshop. Naseer Ahmed blamed his brother for the theft that took place at his residence and later the accused persons threw acid on his brother to force him to confess the theft. As a result, Skindar Hayat received severe burn injuries on his body parts including on his face.
