Politicians who took money should be disqualified:Parvez Elahi

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League senior central leader and Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi has lauded Supreme Court of Pakistan verdict in Asghar Khan case and said those politicians who had taken money should be disqualified because such people are not suitable for politicking, all issues between India and Pakistan should be resolved peacefully and charged Shahbaz Sharif govt for destroying the Health Department, intention of the present ruler towards young doctors is not right and doctors are leaving the country.

Ch Parvez Elahi said this while responding to questions from media after meeting the delegations of the Indian journalists and the young doctors at the State Guest House here today.

He said that we respect the verdict of the Supreme Court in Asghar Khan case. He said General Mirza Aslam Beg had called Ch Shujat Hussain and him for meeting and offered to provide funds for the elections. He categorically said that we had declined the offer and told him that we contest the elections on our own, we have never taken funds from anyone nor would do so in future either because we do not need funds.
In reply to a question, he said that the verdict of the Supreme Court should be implemented in letter and spirit like NRO case judgment and action must be taken against those politicians who have been named in this case, they should be exposed and disqualified as they are not suitable for politicking.
Talking to Indian journalists delegation which included office-bearers of the National Club of India New Delhi and Chandigarh Press Club and senior journalists, Ch Parvez Elahi said that in order to promote peace, friendship and good neighbourly relations between India and Pakistan, all disputes between the two countries including Kashmir and water can and should be resolved peacefully.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that Pakistan as a gesture of goodwill and for promoting mutual relations has invited the Indian Prime Minister to pay a visit. He said issues would keep coming up between the two countries but these could be resolved through mutual trust and confidence.
He said during his tenure as the Chief Minister, he had taken several result-oriented steps for bringing the peoples of the two countries closer to each other, had started mutual sports events and exchanged delegations between the two provinces in cooperation with Chief Minister of Indian Punjab Captain Amrindar Singh so that people of the two countries meet each other in a better and conducive atmosphere. He said for the first time in the history of India and Pakistan, the Provincial Chief Ministers of the two countries had jointly addressed a press conference adding that we had moved ahead with positive thinking and attitude and Ch Shujat Hussain, who is President of Pakistan Kabaddi Federation, last year along with a delegation had specially participated in the Sports Mela held in Chandigarh. Ch Parvez Elahi said that the media can play an effective role in bringing the peoples of the two countries closer to each other and resolving of the disputes. In reply to a question, he said that we had promoted trade through construction of dual carriageway, we want people of both the countries should be provided visa facilities in particular the journalists who should be given visas for the whole of India and whole of Pakistan.
Chandigarh Press Club President Sogbeer Singh thanked Ch Parvez Elahi and presented him a shawl. Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari paid rich tributes to Ch Parvez Elahi for the steps he had taken for the betterment of the journalists community and said that he (Ch Parvez Elahi) had established Housing Colonies for shelter less journalists in Islamabad, Lahore and Multan without any discrimination and the journalists are very much grateful to him for this historical step. Talking to a delegation of the Young Doctors Association which called on him under the leadership of Dr Muhammad Arshad President Children Hospital also Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi assured the young doctors that we are with them against injustice and excesses and would raise the voice both inside and outside the Punjab Assembly for solution of their problems.
Ch Parvez Elahi regretfully pointed out that the doctors, nurses and teachers, builders of the nation, are out there on the roads for the solution of their problems, they are being treated like criminals, false cases are being instituted against them. He said for the making of a doctor, entire family together works hard, Shahbaz Sharif govt has destroyed the Health Department, his intention towards young doctors is not right. He said when the doctors themselves are worried then how they would be able to treat the patients.

The Deputy Prime Minister appealed to the doctors to maintain sanctity of their profession, do not resort to strikes and look after the patients to the best of their capability. He said during the tenure of Shahbaz Sharif, thousands of doctors are leaving the country and going abroad whereas during our tenure, we had brought the doctors into the country from abroad. He said the present rulers have destroyed the whole province and made the life of people of all walks of life miserable.

Earlier, the delegation had apprised Ch Parvez Elahi and apprised him in detail about injustice and excesses being committed by the Punjab Govt against the doctors including institution of false cases of attempt to murder.

The delegation, which included Dr Matloob, Dr Imran, Dr Javed Malik, Dr Abu Bakr Gondal, Dr Jawwad, Dr Mudassar, Dr Aamer and Dr Nasir Bokhari thanked Ch Parvez Elahi for listening to their problems attentively and giving assurance of all possible help in solution of their problems.
