Training workshop for Jail Doctors on AIDS

Lahore: In order to provide better healthcare to the patients of HIV/AIDS and to control spread of the disease in prisons, Punjab AIDS Control Programme has organized a 2-day training workshop for doctors serving in different jails of the province. Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop, Project Director Punjab AIDS Control Programme Dr. Salman Shahid said that basic purpose of the workshop is to provide better treatment facilities to the patients and to check the spread of the disease among inmates of the jails through providing necessary training to the doctors working in different jails of the province.

While speaking on the occasion, DIG Prisons Lahore, Mubashar Malik said that prisoners have to live for a long time in the jails therefore they need more counseling and awareness regarding HIV/AIDS. He assured that all the doctors working in prisons of the Punjab would benefit from this 2-day training workshop and would be able to provide better treatment facilities to such patients. Project Director Dr. Salman Shahid briefed the participants regarding the present status of the disease in Punjab and the treatment facilities being provided to the AIDS patients in government hospitals free of cost and steps taken for the control of HIV/AIDS. The inaugural session was also addressed by Technical Officer (Health) Prisons Department Dr. Ahmed Zulfiqar, Deputy Project Director Faisal Majeed and Programme Coordinator Ms Saadia Naeem.
