accountability law is for the protection of the old looters:Syed Munawar Hassan

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat eIslami,Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the politicians who had been plundering national wealth during the last forty years were trying to hoodwink the nation in the name of the new .

In a statement here on Thursday, he said that the nation wanted strict accountability of the corrupt politicians at least since 1980, and the recovery of the plundered wealth from the corrupt. However, the new accountability bill was a trick to legalize corruption up to October, 2002.

He said, the PPP and the PML(N) had been in power for four times each and were not only aware of each other’s corruption but were also protecting that. Beginning accountability from 2002 actually meant that besides the PPP, the PML(N), as also the PPP’s present allies, MQM and the ANP had had joined hands to cover up their corruption till this date.

Syed Munawar Hasan stressed that the Chairman of the Ehtesab Commission should be a senior Supreme Court judge and should be appointed through national consensus and not merely with the mutual consent of the government and the so called Opposition. He said the poverty stricken nation would not allow the government and the opposition to hide their corruption.

The Ameer, JI said that for the last three years, the Supreme Court had been

busy with the notorious NRO of the Musharraf days while the government had been trying hard to protect the black law. This tug of war had wasted three years of the nation during which the ruling alliance had plundered billions.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that the PPP and the PML(N) had been in power in the country since 1970 and the multiple problems being faced by the country and the nation at present were all due to the corruption and bad governance of these two parties. The  tales of the rulers’ loot and plunder were the talk of the people not only within the country but also abroad.

He said the notorious NRO had provided protection not only to the corrupt rulers, but also thousands of murderers and extortions, but the apex court took due notice of the black law and struck it down. The new accountability bill was yet another black law meant to provide cover to the plunderers, he added.
