We will make Lahore Drug free city: Aslam Khan Tareen

Lahore: Chairman Lahore Drug Free City Project Muhammad Aslam Khan Tareen has presided over a meeting, here Monday, to review the working of different departments under the project during the first six months of the current year.

The meeting informed that as many as 4233 cases were registered arresting 4368 persons involved in drug business, recovering 115.644 kg heroin, 25.288 kg opium, 590.552 kg chars and 28412 bottles of liquor during the period in connection with the on going crackdown against the drug sellers. Lahore police registered 63 cases u/s 9C CNSA against listed drug lords while ANF raided 41 drug dens during the period.

The Meeting was attend by Brig: Shahid of ANF, Project Manager LDFCP Maj: Nadeem Abbas, DG Social Welfare Malik Muhammad Aslam, DIG Operations Rai Tahir, SSP D&I Shariq Kamal, representatives of Health, Excise & Taxation, DGPR, Customs, Railway Police, Auqaf, Sports, Education departments and others concerned.

CCPO Aslam Tareen asked the participants the meeting to work with full devotion, strength and dedication to make Lahore a drug free city and discharge their duties with religious zeal & commitment so that society was purged of this nuisance. He directed all departments to sent progress report regarding their working besides ensuring that the focal persons appointed by the departments attended the LDFCP meetings in person instead of sending some other representative so as to make the meeting progress oriented. He said that the Civil Lines Division has been declared drug free zone in accordance with the projects targets and asked Special Branch to report in case this activity was still found to be in operation so as to enable action against the black sheep involved. He directed SSP Sahriq Kamal to prepare and circulate a performa regarding the progress reports to all departments besides making Labour department preparing a database of drug use amongst the workers so that steps could be initiated for arresting this trend.

Maj: Nadeem Abass informed that 522 Workshops, walks & rallies, pictures exhibition, puppet shows, banners, hoardings, TV talk shows and Colum/ articles in media were arranged under the awareness campaign besides arranging lectures at educational institute, factories etc alongwith use of social media for the purpose and as many as 4543538 people were approached through these means.
