Jail police is involved in drug supply to the prisoners:Iqbal Channar

Lahore:Provincial Minister for Prisons, Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar has admitted that jail police staff is involved in drug supply.He said that more than 70 jail employees have been removed from service on the allegations of supplying drugs and mobiles to the prisoners while more than three thousand mobile phones have been recovered from the prisoners.

He said that various steps have been taken for improving security arrangements, welfare of the prisoners, elimination of corruption and violence and enhancing the performance of the staff in the jails throughout the province.

He said that 10 thousand blankets have been provided to poor and old aged prisoners while payment of fines of unattended prisoners has been made with an amount of one crore twenty lakh rupees. Similarly, three Superintendents Jail, five Deputy Superintendents Jail, 12 Assistant Superintendents Jail and four storekeepers have been suspended on the charges of irregularities. He said that social and welfare institutions have installed 33 water filtration plants in the jails for providing potable water to the prisoners.
