PEEF Scholarship Programme increased to Rs.10 billion

Lahore: The amount of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) for Shahbaz Sharif Scholarship Programme has increased to Rs.10 billion and forty thousand students have been given educational scholarship from its income.

This was disclosed in a seminar held at Government Post Graduate Jhang under the aegis of PEEF for creating about Shahbaz Sharif Scholarship Programme. Members Assembly Iftikhar Ahmed Khan Baloch, Mehr Sikandar Bharwana were the chief guest while Principal Muhammad Aslam Sajid presided over the seminar. DCO Muhammad Shahid Niaz, EDO Education Naseem Zahid, Zahid Sulehri besides heads of various educational institutions, students and their parents were also present on the occasion.

While addressing the seminar, MPA Iftikhar Ahmed Baloch said that the encouragement to the youth by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is unprecedented. He said that due to endowment fund, no intelligent students can be deprived of education due to poverty. He said that this scholarship programme will provide help in promotion of education and national development. He asked heads of educational institutions to create awareness about Shahbaz Sharif Scholarship Programme among the students so that the benefits of this programme could reach to the deserving and talented students.

MPA Sultan Sikandar Bharwana said that setting up of PEEF is a great achievement of Punjab government. He said that Daanish School will be set up in Jhang, through which free educational facilities would be available to poor and deserving students. Principal Muhammad Aslam Sajid said that Shahbaz Sharif’s scholarship programme is like a tree which is providing shelter and fruit to the people. He said that providing education to the children is a noble mission and philanthropists should also come forward for this purpose. Manager Monitoring Zahid Solhari said that this programme was started in 2009 with initial fund of Rs. two billion which has now increased to Rs. ten billion. He said that 240 deserving students will be given scholarships from the fund in Jhang this year. Later, the distinguished gusts gave away bags and educational certificates to the students.
