foolproof safety arrangements demanded on the routes of metro bus project

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has issued instructions for making foolproof safety arrangements on the routes of metro bus project and directed authorities concerned to take all out protective measures within available resources to ensure safety of human lives. He said that special measures should be taken for this purpose during Eid holidays.

He was presiding over a high level meeting to review safety arrangements on the routes of Metro Bus Project, here today. Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Assembly Members Mehr Ishtiaq, Hafiz Muhammad Nauman, Managing Director Metro Bus Project, Commissioner Lahore Division, acting Inspector General Punjab Police, DIG Operations, DG LDA and other concerned officers were present. The Chief Minister announced financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh for the family of a woman Farzana who lost her life when she fell into a ditch recently and said that it was a tragic incident and everyone shares the grief of the bereaved family. He directed that the routes of metro bus service should be made safe through evolving a comprehensive strategy for checking such incidents. He said that an awareness campaign should also be launched regarding the safety arrangements as well as the utility of metro bus project. He directed to ensure the presence of police and the staff of the departments concerned on the routes of metro bus project and said that a comprehensive framework of enforcement should be devised and the monitoring process should be made more effective for removing flaws. He directed authorities concerned to display no laxity or negligence regarding the safety arrangements on the routes of metro bus project as no compromise can be made on the safety of human lives. He directed traffic police that a recorded message should be played on the routes of metro bus project again and again so that people could be apprised of the nature of work and the timeframe. He said that special arrangements should be made for traffic management during Eid holidays so that citizens should not face any difficulty. The Chief Minister said that software of metro bus project is being developed through which the timeframe of work will be given so that authorities concerned should know about the progress of the project on their computer. The Chief Minister further directed that an effective planning should be made for work on the sideline roads on the routes of the project and the development work should be initiated on priority basis. Issuing instructions for identifying locations for giving parking facility to the passengers, he directed that the proposal of setting up a drop line for passengers should also be considered. The Chief Minister directed that all services and facilities regarding metro bus project should be outsourced and the speed of work should be further accelerated for the early completion of the project.

The Chief Minister said that metro bus service is a splendid project and will revolutionize transport system and result in provision of safe, comfortable and speedy travelling facilities to the masses.
