More jails are being build in the province:Minister Prisons

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Prisons, Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chunar has said that additional barracks have been constructed, in sufficient quantity, in Lahore and Gujranwala jails during the recent years, while provision of drinkable water, alongwith ceiling fans, has been ensured in the barracks of prisoners, whereas waiting rooms have also been constructed for the convenience of visitors of prisoners.

In his statement the Minister said that complaint registers have been placed in all reception area of jails, and , in case of any complaint, quick redressal is ensured.

He said all Superintendent Jails have been directed to conduct open kutcheries, thrice in a week, and take immediate action on complaints of corruption. He said prisoners are provided separate soaps for bathing and cleaning cloths by the Prison Administration, while more than one medical officers are deputed in jails, where medicine have been made available in sufficient quantity. He said some persons have leveled baseless accusations that donation is being received for meeting prisoners, which has no foundation at all, as relatives of prisoners meet the jail inmates, without paying any fees at all, in all jails.

The Provincial Minister for Prisons Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chunar said that District and Session Judges conduct detailed visits of jails, twice in a month, during which the problems of jails are also discussed, alongwith cases, and, in case of any complaint, immediate instructions are issued to the concerned officer. The Minister said that senior officers of Prisons Department have conducted surprise inspection of jails in view of public complaints, and strict action have been initiated against those responsible in this regard.
