People can be saved from fatal diseases through precautionary measures:Kh Salman Rafique

Lahore: Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the people can be saved from fatal diseases through precautionary and protective measures. He said that although hepatitis is a fatal disease yet is curable. He said that protection from it is easy but its treatment is costly.

He expressed these views while addressing the participants of an awareness walk about hepatitis in the office of Director General Health on World Hepatitis Day, here today. Director General Health Punjab Dr.Nisar Ahmed Cheema, Director Health CDC, EDO Health Dr. Inam ul Haq, employees of Health Department, lady health workers and officials of Hepatitis Control Programme participated in the walk in a large number. Khawaja Salman Rafique said that controlling of diseases is essential, therefore, maximum awareness should be created among the people against these diseases. He said that the people should adopt the principle of “prevention is better than cure” for protecting themselves from diseases.

Addressing the participants of the walk, Director General Health Dr. Nisar Ahmed Cheema said that hepatitis B & C are fatal diseases, therefore, patients should always use disposable syringe for vaccination and screened blood should be transfused to the patients. He said that the use of new blade for shave and sterilized equipment for the treatment of teeth can save from hepatitis. Moreover, women should also use sterilized needle for piercing their ear and nose to save from this disease. He said that the government is spending billions of rupees on the treatment of hepatitis patients despite its limited resources. However, creating awareness among the masses can help eradicate the increasing number of patients for which media particularly electronic media can play an important role in this regard, he concluded.
