LAHORE: Unknown shooters on Thursday killed at least nine prison staff, and injured eight others after storming a building in Rusool Park Ichhra where they were sleeping, police said.
It was the second attack in three days on security personnel in the province of Punjab, raising fears of a fresh wave of violence.
Police said the dawn attack, in which 5 gunmen stormed a residential property housing officers from the country’s troubled northwest who were in the city for training, bore the hallmarks of a similar assault on an army camp on Monday.
Punjab police Chief Habib ur Rehman said the attackers came on three motorcycles and one car, armed with Kalashnikov rifles and hand grenades.
They then stormed the building in the densely populated area of Ichhra, where up to 32 prison staff was sleeping early Thursday.
Rescue workers wrapped bodies in white sheets and survivors sobbed over the deaths of their colleagues as bullet casings lay discarded outside the two-storey grey building.
Lahore city police Chief Aslam Tareen told that “same gang” was involved in his massacre who killed seven security personnel at an army camp in District Gujrat on Monday. . The victims were trainees at the Punjab Jail Academy,” Lahore city police Chief Aslam Tareen said, adding three policemen were wounded. Many of the police were from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
It was worth mentioning that counter terrorism department Punjab reported the chief minister Punjab that some banned organization have made plan to do terror act in different cities of the province. According to sources the chief minister gave the free hand to Punjab police for maintaining peace and offered every facility and resources for this purpose but even than terrorist group was succeeded to create panic in the public by a terror act. After the incident the cm held law & order meeting with top cops and showed his anger on this security failure.
