Polio Eradication campaign would continue from 26th to 28th June :Kh Salman

Lahore:Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that health Department is working on a strategy to bring polio at zero level in Punjab during the current year. In this connection, all the DCOs have been given tasks of strict monitoring of anti-polio campaign in their respective districts, whereas Chief Secretary Punjab is monitoring the situation at provincial level

While administering polio drops to the gypsy children residing near Babu Sabu Interchange to inaugurate Short Interval Additional Doze Strategy (SIADS) Activity for Polio Eradication,Khawaja Salman Rafiq said this campaign would continue from 26th to 28th June in forty one sensitive union councils of five towns during which more than four lakh children upto 5 years of age would be administered polio vaccine drops for which 1200 mobile teams have been constituted. DCO Lahore Noor ul Ameen Mengal, EDO Health, Dr. Inaam ul Haq and other senior officers of the Department also present on this occasion. EDO Health told that the additional Additional Doze of Polio Vaccine is being administered in 41 UCs of Gulberg Town, Data Gunj Bakhsh Town, Samanabad Town, Ravi Town and Allama Iqbal Town. The sewerage water and environmental sample from these union councils proved that the polio virus is circulating in these areas.

He said the objective of polio drops is to strengthen resistance among the children against the virus to prevent them from polio. While talking to the media men Kh. Salman Rafique said that only three countries in the world are still affected by polio virus and unfortunately Pakistan is one of them. He said that government has adopted zero tolerance policy to eradicate polio from the province and all the concerned departments as well as the officials have been categorically told that no laxity or slackness would be tolerated in this regard.
