New fruit and vegetable market is being constructed

Lahore:Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that a new fruit and vegetable market is being constructed in Kacha area on Ferozepur Road at a cost of Rs. one billion which would be completed within six months. He said that best commercial facilities would be made available in this fruit market and this project will also be exemplary in respect of quality and transparency. He said that shopkeepers working in Kot Lakhpat fruit market would be provided shops in the new market on priority basis while the remaining shops would be allotted on merit and in a transparent manner.

The Chief Minister was talking to representatives of media and citizens on the occasion of foundation-stone laying ceremony of the new vegetable and fruit market at Kacha, here today. Members National and Provincial Assemblies, high ranking government officers and a large number of people were present on the occasion. Expressing his views, the Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that, due to expansion, the Kot Lakhpat area has come within urban limits, where many hospitals are located therefore existence of a fruit market in this area is inappropriate. He said that in order to facilitate the masses and to ensure easy access of patients to hospitals it has been decided to shift Kot Lakhpat fruit market to Kacha, Ferozepur Road.

The Chief Minister pointed out that offices, barracks, roads, shops and a mosque would be constructed in the new market and maximum facilities would be extended to buyers and businessmen. He said that construction work of the new fruit market would be supervised by a committee set up under the chairmanship of Member Provincial Assembly Hafiz Mian Nauman, which has been tasked to complete the project within a period of six months by working round the clock. The Chief Minister directed that the best available contractor should be selected and shirkers and corrupt elements ought to be kept away from the project.

He vowed that no one in his presence can even think of pilfering a penny of government money. He said that Pakistan belongs to all of us and there should be no misappropriation of funds. The Chief Minister assured the workers in Kot Lakhpat Mandi that their rights would be fully protected and their problems would be solved on priority basis.

Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the plaque of the foundation-stone of vegetable and fruit market Kacha Ferozepur Road Lahore. DCO Lahore, Noor ul Amin Mengal gave a detailed briefing regarding the project.
