Pakistani businessmen asked to explore Cuba

Islamabad: Republic of Cuba on Tuesday invited Pakistani business community to explore opportunities in the upcoming international expo in Havana.
Pakistani business community can have a chance to build bridges with participants from seventy countries which are taking part in this mega event, said Ambassador of Cuba to Pakistan Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion.

Talking to Chairman Coordination FPCCI Atif Akram Sheikh, Chairman Media FPCCI Malik Sohail and others, he said that China is Cuba’s second largest trading partner and we want enhanced trade ties with Pakistan.

Jesus Zenen Buergo Concepcion said that Pakistani textiles, sports goods, surgical instruments, leather goods and rice are needed in Cuba.

He said that he will push The Cuba Chamber of Commerce for linkages and exchange of delegations with FPCCI.

Health and medical education system of Cuba was considered one of the best in the world and we desire to upgrade Pakistani system to that level, he said.

We have offered biggest ever fully paid scholarship programme to Pakistan under which 1000 students will become doctors by 2015; they would be our ambassadors in Pakistan, the envoy added.

The ambassador said relations between Pakistan and Cuba were based on mutual trust and confidence; our ties are growing that must be converted into trade and economic cooperation.

He said Pakistan is victim of disinformation spread by foreign media which is contrary to the ground realities. He thanked Islamabad for supporting a UN resolution for lifting of embargoes on Cuba.

At the occasion, Chairman Coordination FPCCI Atif Akram Sheikh demanded transfer of medical related technology and training facility to local technicians.

Chairman Media FPCCI Malik Sohail said that said that despite cordial relations and great goodwill gestures like support after the 2005 earthquake and outbreak of dengue the trade and cultural relations remain unsatisfactory which must be enhanced at all levels.

President FPCCI Haji Fazal Kadir Sherani and national business leaders Tariq Sayeed and Iftikhar Ali Malik highly regard service of Cuba and assured that Pakistani business community will participate in Cuban expo, said Sohail.
