Lahore:A seminar was arranged on” Pakistan Flood Resilience Studies Project’, organized by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority at the Command Control and Communication Center at the office of PDMA. The Director General PDMA Punjab Mujahid Sherdil chaired the seminar and the Chairman NDMA Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qadir was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The seminar was also attended by Director General NIDM Ahmad Raza Sarwar and Director DRM Ms. Zeb un Nisa from NDMA.
The seminar was organized to have feedback from all relevant stakeholders on the proposed “Guidelines for Climate Change Resilient Village Reconstruction in Punjab”. The relevant stakeholders included NESPAK, Local Govt. & Community Development Department, HUD & PHE Department, The Urban Unit Punjab, Office of the Chief Architect Punjab, Civil Engineering Department UET Lahore, Lead Pakistan, CDKN and PDMA Punjab.
The proposed guidelines were prepared by Mott McDonalds UK and were also presented by a team of foreign experts namely; Ms. Davey Lorna and Mr. Sam Jewers and were also accompanied by some local experts from Mott McDonads Pakistan. All stakeholders appreciated the efforts of PDMA Punjab for formulating such guidelines with the help of foreign consultants of Mott McDonalds UK and Pakistan. This initiative of PDMA Punjab was also appreciated because of the fact that such rural reconstruction guidelines were non existent before. However, the stakeholders gave a number of valuable comments for improvements and better implementation of the guidelines within peculiar socioeconomic and physical conditions found within the province.
On closing remarks, the Chairman NDMA appreciated the efforts of PDMA Punjab for making this province more resilient towards disasters and reassured his support for all such initiatives of PDMA Punjab.
