Centre release water ,Punjab demands

Lahore:Senior Advisor to Chief Minister, Senator Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa presided over a meeting at 90-Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam, here today, which decided that due to shortage of water at Taunsa, all canals of Mangla command should be kept open for continuing supply of water to cotton crop in Southern Punjab.

Provincial Minister for Agriculture Ahmed Ali Aulakh, MPA Mian Tariq Mahmood, ex-MNA Mukhtar Tarar, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary Irrigation and Consultant Agriculture Punjab were also present on the occasion.
The meeting was informed that during last week, it was decided to keep all the canals open for seven days for meeting the need of 9000 cusec of water for the cotton crop while only 7000 cusecs of water was received during the fixed period which was insufficient. The meeting was told that water level in River Indus will start increasing by June 05 as a result of which relief would be provided to Southern Punjab through Taunsa.
