Cops punished for fining justice’s vehicle

LAHORE – A team of Motorway Police on Thursday had to wait for four hours as punishment for issuing a fine ticket to the official driver of a Lahore High Court Justice.
Following a phone call from judge’s office, the Motorway Police team led by SSP Jaffer Khan appeared before Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh in his chamber. Justice Sheikh was coming to Lahore. Patrolling officer Sajjad had on May 5 stopped a vehicle LRL-116 at National Highway Road Khanewal for violating the traffic rules. The driver, Syed Asad Abbas introduced himself as an official driver of LHC Justice Sheikh and also informed the patrolling officer about the honourable judge, also sitting in the car.
The patrolling officer informed the driver that he was driving the car at 114 kph that was violation of the traffic rules. The officer also showed a still image of the car to the driver. The officer told the driver that he could drive the vehicle only at 100 kph and he had to pay Rs750 fine on traffic rule violation. Meanwhile, the patrolling officer issued a fine ticket numbered 2284693.
The driver, after getting permission from the LHC judge, allowed accepted fine ticket, the patrolling officer said. According to the driver, the speed was normal and the patrolling officer had misbehaved with Justice Sheikh.
Later, the Motorway Police team apologised from the Justice and assured that action would be taken against responsible officers after inquiry.
